MOMONDO LAUNCHES AFRICAN TRAVEL SEARCH SITE
First flight and hotel Metasearch for East and Central Africa founded
Leading travel search engine Momondo.com has joined forces with Nation Media Group, East and Central Africa's leading media house, to proudly launch Twendetwende (www.twendetwende.co.ke), the regions first Metasearch engine, for flights and hotels.
Twendetwende allows users in East and Central Africa to compare pricing from over 700 OTA's and airline websites, plus 25 hotel vendors that search more than 400,000 hotels worldwide, to secure the best hotel and flight deals.
The website was launched by Momondo.com, one of the world's leading flight and hotel Metasearch engines, and Nation Media Group, which has operations in print, broadcast and digital, and runs nine newspapers, three TV stations, four radio stations and over 12 consumer facing websites, in East and Central Africa.
Commenting on the launch of the website Ms. Ann Gitao, Group Marketing Director, Nation Media Group said, "We are pleased to announce this new development, which is in line with our digital strategy for our region. We run some of the most visited sites in Africa, and Twendetwende, which means ‘Let's Go Let's Go' in Swahili, will provide an ideal platform for travellers in our region- both across east Africa and Africa wide travellers. We will also follow it up in a month's time with a co.ug domain for our Ugandan market, followed by .co.tz domain for our Tanzanian market. Our consumer facing websites draw close to 50 million page views and five million unique users per month and we felt it was the right time to launch such a product in the market, with internet access and air travel improving significantly, in the past 18 months".
Commenting on the association, Martin Lumbye, Partner at Momondo.com said, "We were very glad to be approached by one of the leading media houses from Africa, as expansion into the African market has been on our agenda for some time. The launch of Twendetwende is very exciting, as we are bringing something completely new to the market".
With twendetwende.co.ke, users can compare pricing on one user-friendly, legible page that gives a snapshot of pricing, timetables and brands. The site will also feature compelling content, with essential information on destinations, and new hotels and travel lodges, across the East African region.
